After a first fire in 2018 at the Fouilladol company which affected the technical part while sparing the rest of the structure, the blow fell in August 2023 with a new disaster.
But this time much more important despite an alert quickly given to the emergency and fire services who intervened very quickly. The damage was such that the owners found themselves unable to restart their business. The power of the heat was such that the aluminum machines melted.
And even the slab between the basement and the first floor could not resist new industrial activity if it is preserved, as the scientific police, present on site at the end of summer 2023, had feared. Excessive damage.
Creation of eight housing units
After long administrative procedures, the visits of insurance experts and all the necessary process after this type of disaster, the risks represented by what had become a wasteland in the heart of the town for the adjoining buildings in particular, the decision to demolish was taken. This began in mid-December and ended shortly before Christmas. In order not to leave the space freed by the demolition unoccupied, Mayor Dominique Rigal approached the Public Land Establishment (EPF) so that it could acquire the cleared land. “We also turned to Aveyron Habitat, asking those responsible to imagine the creation of housing,” he continues, recalling the role of facilitator of the local community. And to continue, “if the slab is still good, which of course needs to be verified by experts, there will be the possibility of creating eight housing units.” Especially given the services offered by the municipality (schools, colleges, health, shops, activities, etc.), demand will increase… “There will be proposals to make to architects and a little administrative work in order to modify the zoning,” explains the mayor.
