A fire breaks out on Christmas morning on avenue Général Leclerc in : four injured

A house fire destroyed an apartment in this Christmas morning. Around thirty people were treated, four people with minor injuries were transported to the emergency room.

A violent fire broke out this Wednesday, December 25, 2024, around 10:20 a.m., at 105 avenue du Général Leclerc in Nancy. The alert was given by the tenants of the building, following a fire which started in a 15 m² bedroom, before completely destroying a 50 m² apartment.

The firefighters, led by Commander Geoffrey Baulin, mobilized significant resources to extinguish the flames: four fire engines, two aerial assets, four assistance and victim aid vehicles, an assistance unit respiratory as well as the SMUR and five officers from the chain of command. The interventions were complicated by the narrowness and steepness of the street, making access to the premises difficult.

The majority of the disaster was brought under control quickly, but complete extinguishment required additional work, such as cutting the floor and managing the exterior insulation.

Two families should be relocated

In total, 32 people were evacuated and taken care of, we learned from the firefighters on site. Four of them were injured: two people suffered first-degree burns, while two other victims were poisoned by smoke. They were taken to hospital for treatment.

The residents of the first floor were particularly affected and will be rehoused by the town hall, while those on the third floor should be able to return to their homes after checks.

A few steps away, the hall of the Résidence Leclerc neighboring the damaged building was requisitioned to accommodate residents, provide a hot spot and carry out a census of evacuees. On site, local elected officials, including Frédéric Maguin, deputy mayor, as well as town hall services, the municipal and national police, ensured an active presence to coordinate operations and support the victims. Two families should be relocated.

An investigation is underway to determine the precise causes of the fire. This tragedy reminds us of the importance of safety and fire prevention measures, especially in winter. The authorities and emergency services remain mobilized to support the families affected by this disaster on this Christmas Day.
