The Conference of Haitian Pastors (COPAH) expresses its deep concern about the serious crisis hitting Haiti. She appeals for humanitarian aid and strengthening security. This crisis, according to her, combines political instability, a declining economy, social degradation and a humanitarian catastrophe.
Port-au-Prince, December 23, 2024.-
COPAH denounces the violence of armed groups, aggravating the suffering of the populations and making the situation even more critical.
She denounces the inaction of the Presidential Transitional Council (CPT), created in April 2024 which is contested and some members of which are accused of corruption to the point that certain actors are calling for a judge from the Court of Cassation to lead the transition.
According to COPAH, the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) does not inspire confidence in organizing credible elections before the end of 2025, in a country where the last elections date back to 2016. It says it sees failure on the economically, where inflation reached almost 28% and gangs paralyzed commercial activities.
According to findings, violence by armed groups caused nearly 5,000 deaths in 2024. Despite international efforts to strengthen security, gangs remain active and destructive.
In fact, COPAH calls for urgent humanitarian aid and the strengthening of security forces. She urges leaders to restore the rule of law and hold transparent elections.
She invites every citizen to act to transform the country and build a Haiti that is dignified, united and focused on a better future.
