Fire destroys building in Abercorn

It was at 11:58 a.m. that the fire alarm was given, which allowed the residents of the building to be quickly evacuated.

More than 70 firefighters were deployed to the scene given the challenges of transporting water and cold weather conditions.

The municipalities of Frelighsburg, Cowansville, Dunham, Bromont, Potton, Bedford, Farnham, as well as teams from the American cities of Enosburg (VT), Richford (VT), and Montgomery (VT), lent a helping hand.

The three-unit building located at 107 rue Thibault is a total loss.

A family of six and two tenants living alone find themselves on the street.

Two people were taken to hospital after suffering from smoke inhalation.

The preliminary conclusion indicates that the cause of the fire is presumed accidental, but it remains undetermined at this stage.
