On the occasion of the Historic Monument and Biodiversity photo competition, organized by the La Demeure historique association, a photo taken at the Domaine de la Bourbansais, in Pleugueneuc, won the regional prize.

It was Joël Désert, amateur photographer, who distinguished himself with his photo “When the storks pass”, presenting a stork in flight, with the Château de la Bourbansais in the background.

A passionate

A resident of Plouër-sur-Rance, in Côtes-d'Armor, this retiree worked 27 years in the insurance sector in Saint-Malo and worked for many years in local sports associations.

“I have always been interested in photography. The passion arose a good ten years ago. It allows you to freeze a moment, to show it, to bear witness. My favorite subjects? I have a great passion for animals and in particular for birds. I took thousands of photos of all the species that stay at my house or pass through it,” explains Joël Désert.

A story of friendship

This ornithology enthusiast maintains a strong link with the Domaine de la Bourbansais and the Lorgeril family, owner of the estate.

I discovered Bourbansais before Covid. We came as a family. I found this place extraordinary. For my part, I never travel without my camera. I had the idea of sending some photos to the company. The next day, Olivier de Lorgeril called me back. We arranged to meet and hit it off right away.

He continues: “He gave me permission to come and take photos at the estate whenever I wanted. I've been coming about twice a month since. It's a real pleasure for me as the subjects to photograph are unlimited, whether at the castle, in the gardens, at the zoo. It's really extraordinary, because in the same place, depending on the season, the light and also our inspiration, the photos are different. »

Over the years, a bond of friendship has been forged with Lorgeril's family.

A common passion

The lord asked him to participate in the competition, chaired by photographer Éric Sanders, organized on the occasion of the centenary of La Demeure historique, an association which brings together more than 3,000 owners and managers of private historic residences.

“I must admit that when I was informed that I was the winner, the surprise was enormous. It took me two or three days to come down from my cloud. In fact, it was Christmas before its time! », says Joël Désert.

A ceremony, during the closing congress of La Demeure historique, rewarded various amateur photographers, Saturday December 6 at the Château de Bagatelle in Neuilly. An honor for the Breton photographer.

“December 6 is a milestone date. A centenary is always exceptional! We were all brought together with a common passion, our environment, the fauna and the flora. The photo is one of the important vectors to talk about it. »
