Marguerite works as a primary school teacher. After his military service, Jean worked at the veterinary inspection in Huy, as a farm food referent at Brichard, then as manager of a depot in Tinlot. In 1983, he became a professor of science and agriculture at the ILC in Ouffet. “Jean used to arrive at class with a cigarillo which he placed on the edge of the desk. When he left, he often forgot it, so the students would rush to finish it..”
“There has always been a Wathelet at the council table”
The couple had three children, Damien, Florence and Catheline. “We had to do others, because the first is often the rough draft.”commented Jean with humor. Eight grandchildren have been added to this happiness. Jean was also the originator of the youth football committee at Clavier, and a player at Clavier in P1.
Then, taking over from his father Joseph, he was involved in municipal life for 29 years (as alderman and CPAS advisor). “Since 1976, there has always been a Wathelet at the municipal council table“, proudly underlines Mayor Damien Wathelet.
The couple got involved in the Parbolets brotherhood (which honors potatoes). In 2017, they created with André and Marie-Laure, the club “Au Clavier Dansant”. Marguerite, for her part, plays in the Walloon theater troupe in Bois-Borsu. “It is through these different roles that we can see his true face.“, comments, amused, the mayor and son.
Jean also takes care of the Bois-Borsu room, the place of his first kiss with Marguerite. Recently, they just moved to a new house, right next to the one that was their first love nest.
“All this would not have been possible without a great lady alongside Jean, Marguerite, who assumed all the daily tasks in the shadowsconfie Damien Wathelet. Mom, I am grateful to you for what you have done for us. Mom and Dad, along with my two sisters, we are very lucky to have you as parents. Thank you,” manages to articulate the mayor, overwhelmed by emotion, causing the entire public to shed a few tears.
