François Rebsamen says he is ready to “get involved” in the Bayrou government
Former socialist minister François Rebsamen announced in an interview with La Tribune Sunday that he was ready to join the government that Prime Minister François Bayrou is seeking to form by Christmas. “Since 2012, I have repeatedly refused to be a minister. Today, I am ready to commit”declared the president of the Progressive Federation (FP) party, who had supported Emmanuel Macron in 2022 and who has just given up the position of mayor of Dijon.
François Rebsamen, 73, affirms that this commitment to a future government is motivated by the political and economic situation in the country but also by his personal relationship with the president of MoDem. “I have had a relationship of trust with the Prime Minister for many years. I think he's the man for the job. He has the culture of compromise that the country needs, he showed it in 2012 by voting for François Hollande. All this carries my decision”he explains.
François Rebsamen, who declares that he will remain president of the Dijon metropolitan area if he enters the government, had been François Hollande's labor minister. After 2022, he had created Progressive Federation, a “left-wing government movement which brings together elected officials and citizens who no longer recognize themselves in the Socialist Party”.
In this interview with La Tribune Sundayhe appeals to the PS: “Now is not the time for empty chair politics or electoral calculations. I call on all those who put the country's interest before their personal interest to participate in government, or at least to join a broad union of general interest, as the Prime Minister proposed to them. »
François Bayrou hopes to convince the socialists not to censor his government, having failed to obtain their participation.
