South Korean services announced very heavy losses of North Korean troops in Ukraine.
More than 1,000 North Korean soldiers have been killed or injured in fighting against Ukrainian forces, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said Monday.
“We estimate that North Korean troops, who recently went into combat against Ukrainian forces, suffered approximately 1,100 casualties,” the JCS said in a statement released by AFP this Monday morning.
These losses are much greater than the first data arriving from the front since the involvement of North Korean soldiers in this war, particularly in Kursk where Ukraine carried out an incursion on August 6.
Since then, Moscow has gained support from Pyongyang after the deployment of North Korean soldiers to Russia. Recently, Kyiv announced that at least 30 of these soldiers had died during clashes during the weekend of December 14 and 15 near the villages of Plekhovo, Vorojba and Martynovka.
This Tuesday, December 17, Ukrainian special operations forces indicated on Telegram, taken up by KyivPost, that 50 North Korean soldiers were killed and 47 others injured in three days. Armored equipment and vehicles were also reportedly destroyed.
Burnt faces?
In a post published on Telegram, Volodymyr Zelensky assured, on December 16, that the Russian army burned the faces of North Korean soldiers when they died in combat.
“They tried to hide the presence of the North Korean soldiers. It was forbidden to show their faces during training. The Russians tried to erase any video trace of their presence. And now, after the first battles with our warriors, the Russians are trying… to literally burn the faces of North Korean soldiers killed in combat,” he wrote before denouncing a “lack of respect” and “humiliation” on the part of Moscow.
