Death of Alfa Anderson, singer of the group Chic known for the hit “Le Freak”, at the age of 78
CULTURE – Disco Music loses a voice. Alfa Anderson, who famously sang “the freak is chic” at the end of the 1970s with the group Chic, died at the age of 78, American media revealed on Saturday December 21. Neither the causes of his death nor the exact date of death have been revealed.
“RIP Alfa Anderson, thank you for everything”wrote on Instagram Nile Rodgers, who co-founded the group Chic with bassist Bernard Edwards. He also released a tribute video with footage of Alfa Anderson, with music playing in the background. At Last I Am Free on which we can hear the singer's voice.

Alfa Anderson was born on September 7, 1949 in the state of Georgia. His career really took off after doing vocal tests with Chic in the 1970s, says Deadline. She first joined the group as a backing singer, notably on Everybody Dance, then was promoted to lead singer alongside Luci Martin following the departure of Norma Jean Wright in 1978. In the tube Le Freak, she sings a duet with Diva Gray.
An album only in 2017
After Chic broke up in 1983, Alfa Anderson continued his career by performing with Luther Vandross, the one who pushed him to try out with Chic and then who himself sang on the group's first album. She has also been on stage with Gregory Hines, Mick Jagger and Teddy Pendergrass, continues the American specialist media.
She also founded the group Voices of Shalom with her husband, bassist Eluriel Barfield, and released a solo album in 2017 entitled Music From My Heart.
