Israeli media revealed new information this Sunday about the failed rescue attempt that cost the life of hostage Sahar Baruch a year ago. The operation, initially intended to free Noa Argamani, turned into tragedy following confusion over the identity of the hostage.
An Israel Defense Forces unit, deployed on the first evening of Hanukkah, found itself under heavy fire upon arrival on the scene. The ensuing clash left two Israeli soldiers seriously injured and resulted in the elimination of the terrorists present.
It was only several hours after the operation that the Intelligence Division established that the hostage present in the building was Sahar Baruch and not Noa Argamani. Baruch was shot in the head during the confrontation, although it was not clear whether the shot came from Israeli forces or terrorists. His body is still being held in Gaza.
The Baruch family has expressed concerns about the consequences of military pressure on the lives of the hostages, pleading for a quick resolution through agreements. The IDF is committed to thoroughly investigating this rescue attempt and learning lessons from this tragic failure, while continuing its efforts to free the remaining hostages.
