More skilful with the keyboard in hand than with the ball on his feet, he decides to mainly cover a beloved sport, criticized and hated at the same time (football) and a sport that is not one (wrestling).

After a brief stint at OM, and after announcing the end of his coaching career, Jean-Louis Gasset took over the reins of to try to save the club co-founded by his father, but the situation has not evolved, as evidenced by the humiliating defeat against Puy-en-Velay in the Coupe de (4-0) which plunges the MHSC further into crisis.

Called to the rescue by OM in the final months of the 2023/24 season, Jean-Louis Gasset had started a 100-day adventure on the bench, the last of his career as he explained. But finally, the coach who has just celebrated his 71st birthday made his return to Montpellier to try to save the club co-founded in 1974 by his father Bernard with Louis Nicollin. For now, the mission is a failure, and Saturday's humiliation drives home the MHSC in the crisis.

“Shame”

Opposite to Puy-en-Velay Saturday in the 32nd final of the Coupe de France, Montpellier sank against the fourth division team (4-0). A humiliation difficult to manage for Jean-Louis Gasset. « The shame. A feeling of shame. It's a competition that could give us a little oxygen, we're going to analyze it carefully because we were swept away. We lost all the duels, missed the first two opportunities which could have changed the match. But mentally, it's very worrying », Confided the Hérault coach after the game.

“Since I arrived, we haven’t scored a goal”

« Since I arrived, we haven't scored a goal or taken a point away. I hoped that in another competition we could show more mental qualities. There, we gave up. Once we were behind, they played their game… There are two or three players opposite who wouldn't be out of place with us. Their 10 (Nicolas Pays), it seemed as if the ground was not bumpy for him whereas it was for us. This (Saturday) evening was the abyss, we'll have to get over it », the conclusion Gasset.
