Harassed for months, her house burned down twice, the nightmare of a resident of the metropolitan area

The list of malicious acts that ruin Laurence's daily life is long. “This has been going on for months, unabated. It never stopped. Every night,” she assures, distraught.

“Not a day goes by without her telling us something new,” confirms one of her friends.

“A horror film”

Today, an investigation is underway at the police station. The matter is taken very seriously. Because since the night of November 20 to 21, the situation has taken a worrying turn.

His house, located in the Pau metropolitan area, was the victim of an arson attack in the middle of the night. Laurence and her daughter, traveling abroad, were absent. But a friend was sleeping there. Intoxicated by smoke, the man had to spend a day in hospital.

“Who can do this? It's a horror film! » laments Laurence, who has lived in terror ever since. “It started on August 10, the day I had the first break-in attempt,” sighs this woman, a trader in Pau.

Cameras and presence detectors

“I was coming back from a dinner with friends. It was 1:30 in the morning. Ten minutes later, a friend called me to tell me that he saw a man jump the gate. He told me to call the police while he tried to chase the guy. I saw that the bars on the kitchen window were forced open.”

Since then, she has recorded each act of this harassment, the motive of which she has no idea, nor the identity of the perpetrator(s). The police came to his home several times. “I filed around ten complaints…” assures Laurence. But due to lack of information, they were classified “for futile searches” she adds.

For his part, Laurence invested in security equipment: six cameras and motion detectors were installed all around the house. “Whenever an intrusion attempt is made, bells ring inside. Every night we were awake. My daughter was terrified. It was terrible” confides Laurence who, despite the support of her friends and loved ones, feels a little “abandoned”.

“I lost everything”

“My office where I had my whole life is destroyed. The fire started from there. But the whole house was covered in soot. Everything has to be thrown away,” laments the woman who returned from her trip on December 3.

“I arrived with my daughter, my suitcase of summer clothes and my phone. This is all I have left,” she sobbed. She had to “appeal for the solidarity of friends”. “They brought us boxes of warm clothes,” says Laurence, very touched by this outpouring of generosity.

But the nightmare was not over. “We returned in the afternoon and they set the fire again during the night that followed, even though the house had been sealed! Everything that could have been saved was burned. I lost everything,” she assures.

Laurence had to struggle to find temporary accommodation a few days before the end of year holidays. “As someone who has spent my life helping others, I don’t think I deserved that.”
