This was announced last May, and it is now soon to come into force: the price of the consultation with the general practitioner will increase from 26.50 to 30 euros, from this Sunday, December 22, 2024.
From there to having to pay a little more out of your own pocket in the event of a health problem? We'll explain it to you.
How much will consultations increase?
First, you should know that consultations with general practitioners will be even more expensive for younger people. “For the children of under 6 years old, the consultation will increase to 35 euroscompared to 31.50 euros so far,” specifies service-public.fr.
Medical care for children will not only increase at the GP. For a child under 2 years old, the consultation with the pediatrician increases from 38.50 euros to 39 euros in December. In 2025, it will even reach 40 euros. And for a child from 2 years old to less than 6 years old, the price of the consultation with the pediatrician increases from 33.50 euros currently to 35 euros in December.
Likewise, “the coordinated consultation with the medical gynecologist, set at 33.50 euros, will increase to 37 euros in December 2024 to reach 40 euros in July 2025,” specifies the service-public.fr site.
Details of the new consultation prices can be consulted on the Ameli website (Health insurance).
And the reimbursement?
If prices go up, what about refunds? Currently, at the general practitioner, if he is your attending physician, Health Insurance reimburses you 70% of the consultation price, (i.e. 16.55 euros after deduction of the fixed contribution of 2 euros).
If you consult any doctor who is not your treating doctor, Health Insurance reimburses 30%, or 5.95 euros (after deduction of the fixed contribution of 2 euros).
Supplementary health insurance supplements the reimbursement by covering 30 %.
Likewise, reimbursement by Health Insurance is also 70% for gynecologists, ophthalmologists (for the prescription and renewal of glasses, glaucoma screening and monitoring procedures), psychiatrists or neuropsychiatrists (if you are between 16 and 25 years old), or stomatologists.
These specialists can be consulted without prior referral from your general practitioner, as part of the coordinated care pathway, as indicated by Health Insurance.
No noticeable change for patients
Thus, these increases, “which will be covered by Health Insurance and complementary health insurance”, indicates Ameli, will not be felt completely on the patient's wallet. You will still have to advance the costs further when visiting the doctor or specialist.
Thus, with the general practitioner, if he is your attending physician, and with specialists, the consultation will always be reimbursed up to 70%, or 19 euros according to the new prices at your treating doctor and after deduction of the fixed contribution of 2 euros.
On the other hand, it is the mutual insurance companies which will increase their prices, by 6% in 2025, as we wrote in a previous article. Already in 2024, the cost of mutual insurance had jumped by 8%.
