Ukraine has taken the war to the Russian heartland with a massive drone attack on residential buildings in Tatarstan's capital Kazan, located more than 1,000 kilometers from the front line.
The press service of the head of the region, Rustam Minnikhanov, said that eight drones struck the city. Six of them hit residential buildings, one drone hit an industrial facility and another was shot down over a river.
A video posted on local news channel Telegram and confirmed by the Associated Press shows a drone crashing into the upper floors of a high-rise building.
Local authorities say there were no injuries. On Saturday and Sunday, flights were suspended at Kazan airport and all public events were canceled.
Ukraine has not officially recognized the strikes, in line with its security policy.
The day before, a Ukrainian attack using US-supplied missiles hit the town of Rylsk in the Kursk region, killing six people, including a child.
Moscow, in turn, fired more than a hundred missiles at Ukraine during the night from Saturday to Sunday, according to Ukrainian authorities. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, 57 drones were shot down and another 56 were “lost”, probably due to electronic jamming.
