The closest ski resort to opens this weekend with 20 cm of fresh snow that fell yesterday

This is the closest station to by train (3h10 via Frasne) and also one of the closest by car, the 2024-2025 ski season begins this Saturday, December 21 at Métabief. Located in the Jura massifthe resort benefits from recent snowfall which allows the area to partially open. The sectors of Métabief et Super Longevilles welcome the first skiers of the season with correct conditions for the start of winter.

At 1020 meters above sea level, Métabief is a 5-hour drive from Paris, making it a close destination for Ile-de- residents. The resort extends up to 1370 meters at the summit of Morond and usually offers 34 slopes spread over two main sectors. The Alpine ski area normally has twelve ski lifts providing access to varied terrain suitable for all levels.

Conditions of ski favorable for opening

Recent snowfalls create favorable conditions for this opening. The snow cover reached 14 centimeters at the resort and 22 centimeters at the summit, with the last fall recorded on December 20. Negative temperatures, from -1°C at the resort to -3°C at the summit, help preserve the quality of the snow.

Weather services are warning of further snowfall for next week, with possible accumulation of 60 extra centimeters. The access roads to the resort are cleared of snow and passable without special equipment, facilitating the arrival of visitors.

A partially accessible domain

For this first day of opening, the area is partially accessible. In the Métabief sector, three out of seven ski lifts operate, including the Morond chairlift. Skiers can take five trails out of the usual twenty, including:

  • The connecting track
  • The King's Wood
  • La Combe du Lac
  • The Lodge of the Peaks

The Super Longevilles sector shows a higher opening rate with four out of five ski lifts in service, including the Panoramic chairlift. Six out of fourteen trails are accessible, including:

  • Les Campanules
  • Les Prés-Midi
  • The Marmot Trail

Prices and practical arrangements for 2025

For this partial opening, the station is adapting its price list. The day pass is priced at 28 euros for adults, 25.50 euros for young people and seniors, and 23.50 euros for children. Shorter options are available with a two-hour package at 23.50 euros.

Skiers wishing to stay at the bottom of the area benefit from reduced rates: 16.50 euros per day and 14.80 euros for four hours. These packages are available online, at automatic terminals and at the Métabief and Super Longevilles checkouts. For longer stays, multi-day passes are only sold at the ski lift ticket offices.

The resort services recommend checking the operating times at each lift departure, as closures are carried out gradually depending on the sector.
