what is this strange phenomenon observed in the Occitanie sky this Saturday?

And « I changed my mind “, also called ” Skypunch », was observed and photographed this Saturday, December 21 in Occitania. The photo above comes from Vestric in the department of Gardshared by Vincent in the Facebook group of InfOccitanie. Obviously, this is not an invasion of Martians or d'OVNI's ! This is a rare but known meteorological phenomenon.

This phenomenon occurs when a portion of the cirrocumulus or altocumulus type cloud cools. The water droplets in the cloud then drop below freezing, but instead of freezing, they remain in liquid form. If a disturbance, such as the passage of a planeoccurs in the cloud, these droplets, having become very cold, suddenly transform into ice crystals. These crystals then fall under the cloudthus creating the hole.
