Throughout his career in MotoGP, Álex Rins has always been with Japanese manufacturers. He entered the premier class with Suzuki in 2017, where he remained until the manufacturer ended the project at the end of 2022.
Then last year he was with LCR Honda – a satellite team of Honda – before joining Monster Energy Yamaha in 2024 to return as a factory rider. Three different realities and moments, both in his career and in the championship itself.
The podcast By Earsfrom the site Motorsport.comasked Rins which of the three manufacturers he would choose if he had to choose just one. In response, the Spaniard said:
– Putting political correctness aside, it would be very difficult for me to choose which team I would be with. I don't say things just to look good. In the end, it is difficult for me to choose between Suzuki, Honda and Yamaha because the times continue to change. It's not the same from 2017 to 2021 with Suzuki; it’s not the same era we’re in now. If I had to compare, or if I had to choose between Honda and Yamaha, I would choose Yamaha for the simple fact that I am in a factory. And I know what is being done, what is being developed and how things are progressing.
Rins added: 'At Honda, I was in a private team. Yes, I could give my opinion, I could demand, but there were two official drivers – Joan Mir and [Marc] Márquez – and they had a lot more weight. So if I had to look back and choose a team, excluding Suzuki because they are different eras, I would choose Yamaha’.
