By Hearsay – Ways of Seeing: special books

“Publi Fluor” is a collective essay around the work of Chrystel Crickx, who cut out letters by hand and sold letters by the piece in her store in Schaerbeek, between 1975 and 2000. The Crickx Research Group brings together artists and teachers. In around thirty years, collector Astrid Ullens de Schooten Whettnall has collected some 5,500 photographs from around a hundred photographers. A selection from his collection was recently presented at the Rencontres d’ under the curatorship of Urs Stahel. The collection is now available in a beautiful book: “SAGA. A life of art and perspectives, from Lewis Baltz to Tarrah Krajnak” (Ludion / Fondation A). Photographers Alain Janssens, Jean-Marie Lecomte and Yves Leresche followed the Meuse from its source in Pouilly-en-Bassigny to its mouth in the North Sea near Rotterdam. Their images and the texts of Gilles Grandpierre make up “La Meuse, rives et histoire”, two books published by Editions Noires Terres. Architect and photographer, Pierrick de Stexhe traveled across Belgium to capture the main brutalist buildings, built between 1950 and 1980. Produced in black and white with a large format technical camera, his images bear witness to a recent history of our architecture. “Brutalism in Belgium” is published by Prisme Éditions.
