Gasoline: this brand offers fuel at cost price for departures on Christmas holidays

the essential
A major retail brand has decided to renew an operation selling fuel at cost price during Christmas holidays.

Gasoline at cost price is generally summer in mass distribution. We saw this again during the summer of 2024: brands sold fuel at cost price for one or more weekends, generally for the first departures or the summer commute.

The average pump prices in are €1,897 for SP98-E10; €1,774 for the SP95-E10; €1.670 for diesel and €0.805 for E85 bioethanol, according to reports from the Carbu.com website.

It is to lower prices a little that large retailers regularly organize gasoline operations at cost price. What do they consist of? The price displayed at the pump includes the purchase price of oil, transport, VAT and oil taxes, knowing that a liter of fuel is taxed at 60%. When a store sells gasoline at cost, prices lose a few cents but the store makes no profit on it.

To kick off the Christmas holidays, Intermarché is selling fuel at cost price. The operation is organized this Friday, December 20 and Saturday, December 21, only during supermarket opening hours. The list of participating stores is available by clicking here.

Other major retail brands have not planned to organize a similar operation this weekend. The Total group and its brands TotalEnergies, TotalEnergies access and Élan are still committed, for their part, not to sell fuel for more than €1.99 by the end of 2024 and in 2025. This is a level that Total will not cross. The prices currently displayed at the pump are far from that.
