how Russia used European influencers via TikTok

Moscow uses social networks a lot as a propaganda tool. This allows digital interference about which the resigning Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, has just warned. Russia is trying to manipulate European influencers, including several French.

According to information from RTL, thousands of influencers are approached by email or message on social networks. Private agencies offer them the opportunity to share a link, an article or a video for payment, pro-Russian content which praises the power of the army or warns of the risk of world war.

Images are circulating on TikTok where we see a nuclear bomb crashing into . They come from Russian propaganda. According to the newspaper The World, around twenty European influencers accepted the market. Among them, nine French people.

Lower-cost propaganda, according to Renew MEP Nathalie Loiseau. “It’s actually low-cost interference. Russia pays influencers, not very expensively, to slide into the middle of their commercial or lifestyle messages, political messages. This is Russian propaganda that we have been hearing since 2022, broadcast through channels that seem innocent, close to people’s concerns and not through official channels.

According to Nathalie Loiseau, it is very difficult to act, because the Chinese giant TikTok refuses to collaborate with the European Union.
