Windows 11 has a real-time translation function for subtitles generated live on Copilot+ PCs powered by an Intel or AMD processor.
Microsoft has announced a new update for Windows 11. This brings the real-time translation function for subtitles generated simultaneously on Copilot+ PCs equipped with an Intel or AMD processor. Already available on Copilot+ computers running Snapdragon, real-time translation also becomes compatible with (simplified) Chinese on these devices.
This functionality allows you to automatically generate English subtitles live on a video from 44 languages, including Arabic, Bulgarian, Czech, Danish, German, Greek, English, Spanish, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, l Hindi, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Lithuanian, Norwegian, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian and Swedish.
Communication made easier during multilingual meetings
Better yet, this option works for all types of videos you watch on your PC. This could be a video call, a video stored locally on your device, or a film or series from a video streaming platform. If you master English, you will be able to understand video content in around forty other languages.
This new feature is available via the version Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.2705 (KB5050636)currently distributed exclusively on the dev channel, but which should soon be deployed to a larger number of users.
Microsoft specifies that a bug can cause Build 26100 to be displayed by mistake instead of Build 26120 on your system, even though it is the latter that is installed. This problem will not prevent you from normally obtaining the next updates, which will correct this problem.
The Redmond firm also recalls the procedure to follow to receive the latest drivers for Copilot+ PCs with AMD or Intel processors, which are necessary for the proper functioning of the real-time translation of subtitles generated live. In Settings > Windows Update, you can enable the “Get the latest updates as soon as they become available” option. Otherwise, you can go to Windows Update, and click on “Check for updates”.
