A fire alarm goes off at the Paluel nuclear power plant: what happened?

According to our information, firefighters intervened this Thursday, December 19, 2024 on the site of the Paluel nuclear power plant in Seine-Maritime. You may have seen fire trucks in the area. So what happened?

A fire alarm went off

When questioned, the communication confirms to us an intervention by external emergency services around 9 a.m. “A fire alarm went off, but we don’t yet know why,” informs Mathieu Chéret, in charge of communications at Paluel.

When a fire alarm is triggered, “we apply our procedures, that is to say, calling for help,” notes Mathieu Chéret. Verifications and visual checks were carried out by the emergency services, “which showed no fire breaking out”, the communication also indicates.

The origin of the incident?

For its part, the Seine-Maritime prefecture specifies that the fire alarm was triggered in “a production unit located outside the nuclear zone of the Paluel NPP”.

Regarding the incident, “a hardware failure could [en] be at the origin,” underlines the prefecture. Furthermore, “the operator has taken measures to ensure reinforced surveillance. This incident has no impact on the electricity production of the unit concerned.
