In 2024 in , an average of three used cars are sold for every new car according to data from AAA Data. Which brings the number of transactions to almost 5 million between January and November this year. Over the first 11 months, the used car market increased by 3.6%. Although the majority of transactions are carried out between individuals, a significant portion is carried out by professionals (37%). And among the many players, there is Le site de l’Auto which has just published a study on the regions where used cars sold for the cheapest.

A high average price

The principle of buying a used car is that its price is lower than a new car. Logical insofar as it has already had one or more owners and it has more or less a lot of kilometers on the odometer. The study carried out by Le site de l’auto informs us that the average price of a used car in France through a professional is ultimately quite high: between €28,000 and €36,000. We also learn that there can be significant disparities depending on the region.

Auvergne Rhône Alpes, the region to avoid when buying a used car

The Auvergne Rhône Alpes region is THE region where used cars sell for the most in France when you go through a professional. It costs on average €35,596. However, the region represents 14% of transactions. Conversely, the Hauts de France region is the most affordable with an average sale price of €28,728. The region is not doing so badly with an average price set at €29,346.

Price of a used car, classification by region

As mentioned above, the Hauts de France region is the region where used cars are the cheapest with an average of €28,728. It is closely followed by the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region (€28,790). Moreover, consumers are not mistaken. It is in this region that the most sales are recorded (21% compared to only 5% in Hauts de France). The Burgundy Franche Comté region completes the podium with an average price of €28,957.
