The bill becomes even steeper for smokers in 2025. From January 1, the price of tobacco will jump once again in France. This increase will impact the price of hand-rolling tobacco as well as the price of a packet of cigarettes. The evolution of prices is different depending on the brand. In 2025, it is Marlboro, Lucky Strike and Vogue in particular which will undergo the largest price increases.
This new increase comes at a time when the price of tobacco has already experienced two successive increases in January and March 2024. Prices then increased respectively from 50 cents to 1 euro in January then from 50 to 75 cents in March. As a reminder, in 2023, the price of tobacco had also been increased to between 10 and 80 cents for packets of cigarettes and between 20 cents and 1.20 euros for rolling tobacco.
Generally speaking, the increase in the price of tobacco in January 2025 should bring the average price of a pack of cigarettes above the symbolic bar of 12.50 euros. A new increase planned for 2026 will gradually bring the price of a pack of cigarettes to 13 euros.
