Murder suspect arrested loading body into trunk, revealing Google Street View image

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murder using a Google Street View image.

The image appears to show a man putting a bulky bag into the boot of a car, and police said it was a significant clue in their investigation into a man who has been missing since November last year .

The photo, taken in the small hamlet of Tajueco in northern Spain’s Soria province, shows a man crouching over the trunk of a Rover, partly obscuring a bulky white bag.

Another image, captured earlier by Google, appears to show a person pushing a white object in a wheelbarrow.

According to local media, this case is considered a murder.

The Spanish daily The Country reported that text messages and other evidence led to the arrest of two people, accused of killing and cutting up a Cuban citizen.

Police began their investigation when a family member reported him missing after receiving messages saying he had found a new partner and planned to leave the area while getting rid of his phone.

The family member suspected that the messages were not sent by the missing man, and therefore called the police.

A woman, believed to be the victim’s partner, and a man, who had been her former partner, were arrested in November.

Police discovered human remains, including a seriously decomposed torso, buried in a cemetery in a town in Soria.

The remains may belong to the missing person, officers said.

Law enforcement was keen to highlight the role Google Maps played in aiding the investigation, saying it was “one of the clues investigators used to solve the crime”.

They also stated that this material had made it possible to “detect a vehicle which could have been used in this crime”.
