Libya, Algeria and Angola have the cheapest diesel prices at the end of 2024, according to the GlobalPetrolPrices website.
In this ranking, Libya comes first and controls prices at a low price of $0.031 per liter, while the world average is $1.33 per liter.
This ranking highlights that Algeria and Angola manage to keep their prices below one dollar per liter of gasoline.
Diesel expensive in Africa
On the continent, the Central African Republic has the most expensive Diesel, with consumers paying $1.84 per liter for their gasoline.
However, it is only the 27th country in the world ranking. The average price is $1.33 per liter worldwide. Then Malawi ranked 41st, with a liter of gasoline at $1.65.
Same price for Senegal, which completes the African podium. Then follow Seychelles, Mauritius, Morocco, Zimbabwe, Cape Verde, Mali and Burkina Faso.
These prices remain far from the European or Asian summits. The Dutch pay $2.20 for their gasoline, while the French have to pay $2.05. However, it is Hong Kong which holds the absolute record, with a liter of gasoline costing more than 3 dollars.
Furthermore, in an attempt to meet their energy needs, certain African countries have begun, in recent months, to turn massively to Russian refined oil.
Tunisia, Libya and Egypt have thus increased their purchases. The same goes for Nigeria, where diesel prices have soared since June 2023.
Remember that in March 2023, Russia exported 420,000 barrels per day of refined products to Africa, compared to less than 33,000 in 2022.
