PSG: Donnarumma gets stepped on the face, in what world is there no success for Singo?

The image is violent, and the sight of Gianlugi Donnarumma’s face after the shock even more so. During the first period between AS Monaco and PSG, Wednesday evening, in an advanced match of the 16th day of Ligue 1, the Italian goalkeeper was the victim of a huge sole from defender Wilfried Singo (17th minute).

Angry Donnarumma

The latter, on a counterattack, pushed his ball too much when arriving in front of the Parisian goalkeeper, and tried to jump over him to avoid contact. Missed. His right foot came crashing down on the Italian’s cheek.

Donnarumma, who took time to get up, was looked after for a long time by the Parisian staff. Forced to be replaced by Safonov, he came away with a serious wound on his cheekbone… and above all angry that Singo had not been warned.

The Ivorian defender, if we can see that he did not do it on purpose, completely lacked control at the time. Already sanctioned a few minutes earlier, he should have received a new yellow card, or even a direct red card. But the referee François Letexier, despite the protests of the Parisian bench, considered that he deserved nothing. Honestly, we would like to have the explanation.

“Reckless” or “inconsiderate” attitude?

Donnarumma also visibly, since he waited in the tunnel at the break. But according to images from beIN, he was unable to discuss with the central referee. According to the IFAB regulations (page 111 precisely), a “reckless” attitude is not sanctioned, an “inconsiderate” attitude must be sanctioned with a yellow card, and a “violent” attitude with a red card.

The limit between these three definitions is at the discretion of the referee, who in this case therefore had to consider that Singo’s sole was simply careless. And too bad for the face of the Italian goalkeeper.

“From the bench, you can’t see the action well. The players never intend to cause injury… Afterwards, it’s difficult to referee this kind of match, there can be different opinions, reacted coach Luis Enrique after the match. I’m not talking about refereeing work, it’s a difficult job. »
