A blow claimed by the Ukrainians. Tuesday December 17, Russian army general Igor Kirillov was killed by a scooter bomb in Moscow. An attack claimed by the Ukrainians. And it’s a big move on the part of the SBU, according to geopolitical analyst Ulrich Bounat.
So who was this man? “He was a general in the Russian army, so a very high-ranking person within the general staff. He was responsible for, roughly speaking, all radiological, bacteriological and chemical activities of the Russian army since 2017″, explains this Russia specialist.
“He was a bit like one of the pillars of the general staff,” he continues. “He was also a relatively confident propagandistwhich has disseminated quite a few rather crazy and wacky theories on the presence in particular of American chemical laboratories in Ukraine. So he was a relatively well-known personality in the media in Russia and abroad.”
Which, therefore, makes him a target of choice for Ukraine, “since he had also been targeted by the Ukrainians and by the Ukrainian justice system for his action, support for the action of Russian troops in Ukraine, in particular the use of certain tear gases which could be assimilated to chemical weapons”, underlines Ulrich Bounat.
It is through the media coverage of the man that his death is important, “it ultimately sends a signal to the entire staff and who can possibly ask the question who is next on the list”.
