The body was found on the second floor of the former seniors’ residence which has four floors. The emergency services attempted resuscitation maneuvers, to no avail. The man was pronounced dead at the hospital.
An emergency call was made around 7 a.m. Wednesday morning. According to initial observations, the fire started on the ground floor of the building.
Around 35 firefighters helped put out the fire.
The identity of the person has not yet been released. The exact causes and circumstances of death are currently unknown.

Second fire
The Sainte-Claire residence was engulfed in flames for the first time last February. At the time, the fire was considered suspicious. The disaster required the evacuation of several people. The residence subsequently closed.
The fire at the former Sainte-Claire residence is also the second fire to occur in the Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Allégresses district in two days. On Tuesday, around fifty firefighters were deployed to fight a fire which broke out in the afternoon in an apartment building on rue Laviolette.
Three people were evacuated and one of them had to be taken to hospital.
