The Morocco reaffirms its position on the Libyan crisis through its Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bouritaduring a consultative meeting between Libyan representative bodies. The minister emphasized the importance of respecting national sovereignty and the need for a “Libyan-Libyan” solution, without external intervention.
L’Skhirat agreement of 2015concluded under Moroccan aegis, remains an essential reference framework for current consultations between the two nations. The minister also praised the ability of the Libyan people to make crucial decisions when the national interest is a priority, while calling for maintaining unity in the face of foreign interference.
A critique of the internationalization of Arab crises
Mr. Bourita particularly pointed out the over-representation of Arab issues on the agenda of the UN Security Council, representing 80% of the subjects dealt with. This situation demonstrates, according to him, the worrying extent of foreign interference in Arab affairs and the need to favor regional solutions.
Morocco reiterates its commitment to supporting Libya towards a stable and lasting political solution, emphasizing the importance of preserving the unity and sovereignty of the country. The minister emphasizes that dialogue between Libyans can only be constructive in the absence of external interventions. A way of reminding us that the situation on site can only be managed regionally as best as possible.
Moroccan commitment to a lasting solution
The Kingdom of Morocco maintains its position as a neutral facilitator in the resolution of the Libyan crisis, emphasizing respect for the choices of the Libyan people and support for the country’s legitimate institutions. This approach reflects the Moroccan vision of a fair and lasting solution, anchored in the inter-Libyan dialogue as well as Morocco’s asserted position as a key political actor in the region.
