Following the Calenzano explosion, ultra groups denounce deaths at work – ???? Info Libertaire

On December 9, five workers died and several others were injured in an explosion at a fuel depot in Calenzano, Tuscany. Ultra groups in the province have denounced the trivialization of workplace deaths.

Capitalist exploitation kills daily. Often in the shadow of the media spotlight. On social networks, the media Pallonate in Faccia recalls these chilling figures published by theNational Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work (INAIL): 890 deaths were recorded in the workplace in Italy between January and October 2024. The ultras of different Tuscan clubs – Fiorentina, Empoli and CS Lebowski – did not hesitate to denounce this reality.

On the Thursday following the deadly explosion at the ENI fuel depot in Calenzano in the suburbs of Florence, the Curva Fiesole ultras took advantage of Fiorentina’s Conference League match against LASK to unfurl a banner: “Going to work is a right, going home is a duty! Enough deaths on the job!”. The next day in Serie A, the Empoli ultras did the same: “We die from work, because we live in precariousness. Enough deaths on the job!”

Five workers dead, twenty-six injured. The explosion, sending thick black smoke into the air, was felt miles from Calenzano. “A new deadly explosion in the air we breathe. Enough of dying on the job!”displayed the Curva Moana Pozzi of Centro Lebowski at the kick-off of the match against San Miniato Basso, in D6. The ultras of the Florentine club, based on popular shareholding, are known for their commitment to the working class.
