Will there be snow for the holidays? We take stock of the weather for the start of the Christmas holidays.
Many dream of it: spending the holidays with a white landscape. But with a year of ever-changing weather, it’s not yet safe to see snow at Christmas. On the other hand, the holidays begin on Friday, and according to forecasts from weather stations, a few snowflakes should fall on certain regions of France.
Snow in Occitania
While the sun shone on Montpellier this Tuesday, it should be just as much for the start of the Christmas holidays. But on the Pyrenees side, snow is expected in mid-mountains. It will start with some rain from mid-week, before seeing the first flakes fall on Thursday, with temperatures below 0.

“These snowfalls will affect the entire Pyrenean terrain and will continue into the evening”as well as for the day of Friday, note Info Occitanie. “10 to 20 cm of snow above 1,500 meters altitude, or even 30 cm around 1,800 to 2,000 meters”are to be expected. Aveyron and Lozère could also see some snowfall, but less significant.
This is explained by “a west to northwest flow, channeled between the Azores anticyclone and disturbances descending from the British Isles to the Mediterranean which should impose itself on the country”explain The Weather Channel.
According to Weather Francethese falls should make it possible to “consolidate the pre-existing snowpack”. But not sure that the white coat will be there for Christmas… “We should find a mild atmosphere for Christmas, which should benefit from more anticyclonic and therefore drier conditions.”
