In the National Assembly, the deputies did not expect much… But they were still disappointed. This Tuesday, December 17, François Bayrou answered, alone, questions from group presidents. A first sinceEmmanuel Macron appointed him Prime Minister. And a way for him to defend himself after heated controversies. Because his first days in Matignon were not calm for the tenant… And that’s the least we can say. This Monday, December 16 in particular, François Bayrou caused a first outcry. Instead of participating in a meeting on the cyclone which ravaged Mayotte, the Prime Minister flew to Pau… a city where he intends to remain mayor. Questioned by several deputies, he quickly mentioned “the drama of Mayotte”. He also regretted the “fate of those caught in the turmoil while unprotected”. A justification which was not enough for Mathilde Panot.
A “political catastrophe” for the Prime Minister
The LFI MP denounced “a political catastrophe” for François Bayrou. “You should not have gone to Pau but attended the crisis meeting”, she estimated. Disagreeing with her, the Prime Minister responded to her “little controversial phrase”. “I was at the crisis meeting with the President of the Republic”he said.
