A new match stopped after suspicions of racist remarks

The Manche D1 meeting between CA Pontois and AS Théreval was stopped on Saturday because there were allegedly racist remarks.

Saturday December 14, the Departmental 1 de la Manche meeting between CA Pontois and AS Théreval did not come to an end. In his report, which we were able to consult, the referee of the match explains that at the 78^e minute, after the third goal of the visiting team (3-1), players from Pont-Herbert complained about racist remarks from a player from Théreval. Then they accused the referee of not having heard anything.

The captain of the local club is said to have told the official that he was “off the mark since the start of the match (…) with an arrogant attitude that we see too often”. Then he explained that a Théreval player called one of his teammates a “dirty black”. The referee then went to see the player in question who completely denied having said these words. Assistant referee No. 1, who is from the Pont-Hebert club, claimed that he had not heard anything but that the two players had had a discussion.

While the Théreval players were ready to resume the game, the captain of CA Pontois informed the referee that his team did not wish to resume the match. In his report, the official pointed out “the different attitude of the two teams”. The Manche District Disciplinary Commission will take up this matter. But it won’t be easy to deal with because it’s word against word.
