Resident of a town in the country of Blain (Loire-Atlantique), Lysa, a 22-year-old student, completed her degree eighth in his class. Wishing to continue her studies, she therefore registered for a master’s degree via the government platform My Master. ” I wanted to specialize in tourism after my degree in LEA, Applied Foreign Languages. »
She indicates that few universities offer the master’s degree she is aiming for. “Luckily, in Nantes, where I had just finished my degree, this program exists. So I made three wishes: Nantes, Rouen and Lille. »
Loire-Atlantique: she wins a trial, but not her place in master’s degree
When the results came in June, Lysa was accepted in Rouen and Lille, but not in Nantes. Surprise, Lysa, who has a good record and obtained her license at this university, reads via the platform that her maintenance would not have met the requirements. ” I don’t understand. I asked the director of the master’s degree for an explanation. » This highlights a lack of experience in hospitalitya reason which does not appear in the regulation.
The young, tenacious student praises her CV and her professional experiences which allowed her to speak French, English and Spanish fluentlyto hope to gain a place on the waiting list.
The director told me that, for her part, there was nothing more she could do. If she accepted me, she would have to remove another student. Which is false, because his master’s degree is not completed. There are only 13 students for 18 places.
She tries a gracious appeal
Lysa then positions itself in Rouen, which offers a distance learningbut she hopes to continue his studies in Nantes. She then learns that distance learning in Rouen will be closed at the start of the school year.
She therefore finds herself without a place in a master’s program and the deadlines have passed for any other registration.
The student then attempts a graceful appeal with the University of Nantes and sends a letter to the president of the university to plead his case and hope for a positive response. “Despite letters of recommendation and certifications, I received a response on July 16, which was a copy and paste of the first reason for refusal. »
She contacts a lawyer
Desperate, Lysa finds a lawyer who, upon studying his file, is also incomprehensible. The young woman tries again for a voluntary appeal, favoring an amicable dialogue, addressed to the president, drafted by her lawyer. “We thought we had a different consideration. But no response was given to this letterreceived by the university on September 2. »
Lysa has two months to act and hope to have a place in a master’s degree, or at least to be on the waiting list. The start of the school year is September 16, with pre-school a week before. She then learns that there are places available in the chosen master’s degree. “In view of these elements, the lawyer proposed the emergency appeal, summary proceedings. A much more admissible option at this precise moment, because I no longer had an option to register elsewhere. And the urgency was to start a master’s course quickly. »
The student wins her case…
The appeal was filed on September 16back-to-school day. The judge ruled on September 30 and suspended the refusal of June 4 and the rejection of his free appeal of July 16.
The university was ordered to review my application promptly, or had 15 days to appeal. The judge pointed out a procedural defect, a reason for refusal which does not appear in the list and a stereotypical motivation in the refusal. He considered that this was likely to create serious doubt about the legality of the contested decision.
The case was indeed re-studied, but ignoring the judgment, the same reasons are given to Lysa. “They even added that I had no plans and that I was not interested in the field. In my file is my plan for the future. The director, during my interview, even told me that it corresponded to the program. »
…but she loses her place in master’s
Lysa also reveals that his interview was not carried out perfectly. “I should have had my interview in three languages, as specified in the regulations. This was not the case, I didn’t pass LV2. »
The young woman should have been integrated. She loses a year, but not her will to enter this training. “But it won’t be in Nantes, given the treatment I underwent. The next step will be to return to court, to show that we do not ruin a young person’s future with impunity. »
Indeed, the judge’s decision should have been enough for Lysa to join the master. She denounces non-compliance with the judgment.
There was no reason not to take me, especially since there is room. They didn’t even put me on the waiting list. The way of recruiting in this master’s degree appeals to me. I won my case, but not my place in master’s degree.
The procedure continues
The student launched a substantive procedure which will only be completed in 2026. “I want to make it clear that there are rules to respect and obligations among students, but also within the university. I want to continue the procedure, because I feel like I’ve been discredited. If I stopped now, my fight would have no impact on the future and on future students who would experience similar treatment. »
When contacted, the presidency of the University of Nantes did not respond to our requests.
