Prada a little closer to the stars, this time it is a literal expression. Indeed, this October 16, at the International Astronautical Congress in Milan, the spacesuits (with the sweet, barely complex name of Axiom Extravehicular Mobility Unit spacesuit, nothing very simple in space) were unveiled which will be used to NASA’s Artemis III mission. The latter, which will send astronauts back to the surface of the Moon for the first time since the end of the Apollo program, is scheduled for September 2026, perhaps in the middle of Fashion Week. Why do we say that? Because the whole thing, made by the American company Axiom Space, East a collaboration with Prada. Just that!
Prada flies into space
Prada in space, what does that look like? On the white jumpsuit with gray details, we now find the red lines, signature of Prada Linea Rossa clothing, the famous line dedicated to sportswear from the Milanese house. “Pushing our limits is one of the company values that represents the spirit of Prada and the vision of my parents,” explains the son of Miuccia Prada and Patrizio Bertelli, Lorenzo Bertelli, in charge of marketing for the brand. “I am very proud of the result we are revealing today, which is just the first step in a long-term collaboration with Axiom Space.” How far can the latter go? A space parade? Go figure…
Space, a fashion affair
What is certain is that this collaboration marks a step forward in the ties that unite fashion and space conquest. The latter has always been a crazy source of inspiration for creators, particularly those of the 1960s with the trio Pierre Cardin, André Courrèges and Paco Rabanne. From Nicolas Ghesquière to Alexander McQueen or Iris Van Herpen, many designers have used space as a creative starting point, recalls an article in Vogue American. And obviously, how can we forget the Chanel show where Karl Lagerfeld launched a rocket in the middle of the Grand Palais? Fashion continues to think big and is now exported beyond our planet. It remains to be wondered whether some fashionistas will opt for the spacesuit as an outfit for the next Milan fashion week…
