Zelensky presents his “victory plan” to the EU and NATO
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky presents this Thursday, October 17, his “victory plan” to the European Union (EU) and NATO during the summit of leaders of the twenty-seven member countries, organized in Brussels. On Wednesday, the President of Ukraine presented his five-point plan to the Ukrainian Parliament. One of the points notably provides for kyiv to receive an unconditional invitation to join NATO.
The Ukrainian leader assured that if Ukraine’s allies implemented it now, this plan could lead to the end of the war against Russia as early as next year. He had already presented this plan, which included three additional “secret” points, to certain Western leaders, including Joe Biden.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who took office earlier this month, said the plan presented by the Ukrainian president was a “strong signal” but that he could not, as it stands, support all the points of this plan.
Australia donates 49 tanks to Ukraine
Australia will donate to Ukraine a batch of 49 old American M1A1 Abrams battle tanks in the face of the Russian offensive, it announced this Thursday, before the NATO meeting in Brussels. “We stand with Ukraine in its fight against Russia’s illegal invasion”underlined the Australian Minister of Defense, Pat Conroy.
Equipped with a 120-mn gun, these 60-ton tanks were built between 1985 and 1993 and had been refurbished before their acquisition by Canberra in the mid-2000s.
Volodymyr Zelenski welcomed this initiative on the X network and expressed his “gratitude” towards Australia.
