a price increase of 11% to be expected?

European motorists will have to face rising fuel prices in the coming months.

Europe will establish a new regulation which should impact fuel prices. In fact, an increase prices is to be expected by motorists.

An upward trend in prices

There exists several reasons which can explain an increase in fuel prices. The conflict in the Middle East is one. But if the bill goes get heavier for motorists in the coming months, it is for a any other reason.
In fact, a new European regulation wishes a reduction drastic reduction in greenhouse gases by to 2030. The latter is called ETS 2. If it is adopted since 2023, it will now attack to CO2 emissions fossil fuels used in sectors such as road transport.
Bad news for motorists since for many months fuel prices are on the decline. A trend which reversed itself last week with an increase of 3.3 cents on diesel and 2.2 cents on the SP95 – E10. This increase is explained by tensions in the Middle East as well as the outbreak barrel prices. But what can we expect with the new European regulations?

An 11% increase in prices to be expected?

Regulations ETS 2 has one goal: to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 55 % by 2030 in Europe. This regulation will take effect in 2027 and will tackle several sectors, such as building, construction, small industry and road transport.
The Court of Auditors was interested in ETS 2. According to it, this regulation can be dangerous in terms of fuel prices. The increase could then be of the order of 10 to 11% on fuels and 11 to 13% on gas.
A person’s energy bill lambda could therefore drastically increase. According to the Court of Auditors, this increase could vary between 200 and 650 euros more every year.
At the same time as this regulation, the population’s purchasing power towards electric cars will be weakened. In fact, the bonuses go lower and the penalties for polluting cars will intensify until 2027, the date on which ETS 2 will enter in force. The authorities will therefore have to manage a situation delicate in the coming months.

Whatever happens, Europe continues with its aim of developing electric mobility. All while trying to keep reasonable priceswhich is not successful for the moment.
