Russia announces child killed in Ukrainian strike in Moscow region

Dozens of Ukrainian drones were shot down by Russian air defenses early Tuesday, September 10, in the Bryansk region and Moscow, more than two years after the start of the war in Ukraine. According to Russian authorities, a 9-year-old child died.

Russian air defenses shot down at least 71 Ukrainian drones over Russia overnight Monday into Tuesday, according to local authorities and the Russian state news agency Tass. “Unfortunately, a 9-year-old child died” after a drone hit a residential building in Ramenskoye on the southeastern outskirts of the capital, Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobiov said on the Telegram messenger.

Ten Ukrainian drones were also shot down overnight in the Moscow region, the city’s mayor Sergei Sobyanin said on Telegram.

Due to the attack, three Moscow airports have again suspended departures and arrivals, according to their websites.

Almost daily attacks

In the Russian region of Bryansk, which borders Ukraine, “59 enemy unmanned aerial vehicles were intercepted and destroyed,” said Alexander Bogomaz, the regional governor. “There are no casualties and no damage,” he said on Telegram.

Two Ukrainian drones were also intercepted in the Tula region, south of Moscow, Russian state agency TASS reported.

Russia announces almost daily that it has destroyed Ukrainian drones launched against its territory. For its part, kyiv claimed responsibility on Saturday for a strike on a Russian munitions depot in the border region of Voronezh.
