a new phenomenon in Castres, Josua Tuisova in great form, the Pauois disappoint… the tops and flops of the multiplex of the 1st day

Christian Ambadiang a hero in Castres, Josua Tuisova takes care of his first exit, Pau not up to the mark and Montpellier already sinking…

TOPS

With Ambadiang, the Top 14 has a new phenomenon

Tears of joy. A rare phenomenon for the start of the season. However, given his match, we can understand it. Originally from Cameroon, the former Nevers winger played his first minutes in the Top 14 under the colours of the CO this Saturday. Rather discreet in the first half, he then won over all the spectators at the Pierre Fabre stadium and perhaps many more. He first came back from nowhere to prevent Max Springs from scoring a try in the corner after a run of more than 50 metres.

A real rescue that was enough to earn him a standing ovation from the crowd when he came off (53rd). Twenty minutes later, when he returned to the field (78th), Racing 92 had regained the lead. That was without counting on his phenomenal speed. Served 3 meters from the in-goal area, the CO winger beat the entire Racing defense to flatten in the corner and offer his team an important success.

The return of the real Josua Tuisova

A usual stat sheet for him but such significant differences for his team. With 1 crossing, 72 meters covered but above all 9 defenders beaten with the offloads that go well, Josua Tuisova, starting on the wing against Castres, really put the Racingmen in the advance. He was involved in two tries of his team including the one he offered to Chavancy after a real festival in the Castres defense. To meet expectations, Racing 92 will need a Tuisova at this level. But today, he was stolen the show by Ambadiang and it is also his fault: it is he who misses his tackle at the start of the run of his direct opponent. Too bad.

FLOPS

The Pau Section disappoints

Christophe Urios, the Clermont manager, expected a complicated match with a tough opposition. However, the final score speaks for itself and reflects the passivity and helplessness of the Pau players on the pitch at the Marcel Michelin stadium. The line-up had something to give the Béarnais hope (Gorgadze, Simmonds, Gailleton, Attisogbe were all there) and consequently, the disappointment is even greater. With 3 yellow cards, 15 fouls committed, difficulties in the ground game and an inability to really worry the ASM, the Section leaves Auvergne with its suitcase full. To avoid doubt, a rebound is essential against Bayonne at home next weekend.

Montpellier has already fallen

A recruitment that has caused a lot of talk, a new staff, an opponent who is also in doubt and the desire to start off on the right foot… It will not have been enough for Montpellier who are far too undisciplined despite a positive surge in the last 20 minutes. The attitude is not negative, the talent is there but the piece still falls on the wrong side. The MHR will have to work on its discipline, and its efficiency in defense if it does not want to experience another nightmarish start to the season and sink into doubt. And the solutions will have to come very quickly given the schedule: a trip to Toulouse, a reception of Bayonne and a trip to the Stade Français.
