Even more than in 2024, the coming year offers many opportunities for long weekends and bridges, provided you take time off from your job on specific dates. Here are the dates.
Barely back at work and already dreams of escape… There will be no shortage of opportunities to travel in 2025, thanks to the many possibilities of bridges and long weekends. Of the eleven national public holidays, only one falls on a weekend (in this case November 1st, a Saturday), six in the middle of the week and four on a Friday or Monday. By taking time off on specific dates, it is possible to double the length of your vacation. So many days freed up to organize a trip to France or Europe, whether by train, van or bike.
The New Year’s Day (January 1st) occurring on a Wednesday, we begin the year 2025 with the possibility of a five-day weekend. To do this, set Thursday, January 2nd and Friday, January 3rd. Note that this “viaduct” falls during the Christmas school holidays which end on Monday, January 6th in all zones.
In April, the Easter Monday falls on April 21. To get a four-day weekend, take time off on Friday, April 18. If you want to go away for longer, take four days off from Tuesday, April 22 to Friday, April 25: you will then benefit from nine days of rest in total. Residents of Haut-Rhin, Bas-Rhin and Moselle benefit from an additional day off, the Good Friday (April 18) being a legal holiday in Alsace and Moselle.

Three bridges in May
The Labor Day (May 1st)the Victory of 1945 (May 8) and theAscension (29 mai) all take place on a Thursday. To get three four-day weekends, simply take Fridays May 2, 9, and 30 off. Want to go away for longer? By “sacrificing” five days of vacation (May 2, 5, 6, 7, and 9), you “double the bet” by getting an eleven-day rest period. Better still, by taking May 30 and the entire week of June 2 (six days), you free up twelve days of rest until Whit Monday (June 9)As a reminder, classes will be closed on Friday May 30 and Saturday May 31 (all zones combined), according to the National Education calendar.
The National Day (July 14) If it is a Monday, take Friday, July 11th off to give yourself four days off, or take the entire week of the 14th off (i.e. 4 days off) to get nine days off. A tip that we will apply the following month during theAssumption (August 15) : take time off on Monday the 18th to have four days of vacation, or the entire week of August 18th to enjoy summer for nine more days in a row.
In November, the only public holiday in 2025 that falls on a weekend
In 2025, the All Saints’ Day school holidays run from Saturday, October 18 to Monday, November 3 in the three zones. All Saints’ Day (November 1st) is the only public holiday in 2025 to fall on a weekend (Saturday). No possible combination. On the other hand, theArmistice 1918 (November 11) takes place on a Tuesday. By asking your employer to take the entire week of November 3rd and Monday 10th, you almost double the stakes by obtaining 11 days of break (from November 1st to 11th inclusive) for six days of vacation sacrificed.
In December, Christmas (December 25) takes place on a Thursday, just like the New Year (January 1, 2026). To get a four-day weekend and recover from New Year’s Eve, ask for your Friday, December 26. As a reminder, the Christmas school holidays begin on Saturday, December 20, 2025 for a return to school on Monday, January 5, 2026.
