The prefecture of the Breton department summoned fifteen mayors on Tuesday, September 3, to cancel their decree ordering the State to launch an emergency plan, in particular to guarantee effective access to public hospitals.

The elected officials arrive in groups, this Tuesday, September 3, in front of the administrative court of Rennes. They traveled together, coming from the west of Côtes-d’Armor to respond to the same summons: fifteen mayors of the department are summoned by their prefecture, which requests the cancellation of their order on access to care. Since May, 55 municipalities around Guingamp and Lannion have adopted a similar text, formally notifying the State “to initiate as soon as possible an emergency plan for access to healthcare in Côtes-d’Armor, guaranteeing fully-fledged public hospitals accessible 24/7.” Otherwise the State must pay 1,000 euros per day of delay.

An initiative launched by Guingamp councillor Gaël Roblin (left-wing pro-independence) which has spread to this poor and rural area, where medical desertification has increased in recent years. In the Guingamp hospital, deliveries have been suspended since April 2023. In the Lannion hospital, night emergencies have been regulated since March 2024. “The aim of the process is not to get the 1,000 euros. It is to talk about the substance, to have a constructive dialogue,” explains Sylvain Camus, mayor of Ploulec’h, irritated by the gap between the problems he sees on the ground and the satisfaction of state services.
