The jury of the literary prize announced its first selection on Tuesday, September 3. The winner will be announced on November 4.

The Académie Goncourt unveiled its first selection on Tuesday, September 3. Among the sixteen titles, some selected are favorites of the literary rentrée, such as Kamel Daoud (HourisGallimard), Maylis de Kerangal (Day of surfVerticals), Sandrine Collette (Madelaine before dawnJ.C. Lattès), Gael Faye (JacarandaGrasset)… This one won the Goncourt des lycéens prize in 2016 for Small CountryKamel Daoud narrowly missed it in 2014 for Meursault, counter-investigation.

Ruben Barrouk is the only first-time novelist.

Second selection scheduled for October 1st

The jurors are the same, only the president changes. Philippe Claudel was elected against Pierre Assouline in May, he succeeded Didier Decoin. Christine Angot joined the jury last year. It was Jean-Baptiste Andrea who won the 2023 Goncourt for Watch over her (The Iconoclast).

The 16 selected titles are also in the running for the Prix Goncourt des lycéens, awarded on November 28, and the Prix Goncourt des prisonniers, launched in 2022, awarded on December 17. The second selection of the Goncourt is scheduled for October 1, then the names of the four finalists will be revealed on October 22. The prize will be awarded on November 4, at the Drouant restaurant in Paris, as is customary.
