The incident was broadcast on social media on August 24, during a flight operated by the Chinese airline Juneyao Airlines.

Who has never experienced unpleasant flights because of a baby who never stops crying? In this situation, some passengers do not hesitate to use particular methods to calm the toddler… Last month, in China, the reaction of two female passengers caused a scandal during a domestic flight from the city of Guiyang (in the south of the country) to Shanghai.

In the video posted on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, a one-year-old girl can be seen in tears in the plane’s toilet, trying in vain to leave. The child, who was traveling with her grandparents, was allegedly taken to the toilet by her aunt and a passenger who is not part of the family, with the grandmother’s consent, according to the airline.

According to the British newspaper The Guardian one of the two adults confined with her said: “If you stop crying, you can go out, auntie will take you back to grandma’s” Juneyao Airlines also added that the girl had been screaming for three hours without stopping. After the incident, the company said it spoke to the child’s mother, who was already aware of the situation. She expressed her “understanding» towards women for their «help and their actions” during the flight.

Controversy on the internet

The scene, published by one of the two women who is not the aunt, Gou Tingting, is going viral in China and causing much indignation. In the caption of her video, she describes the hell that the passengers were living. Many passengers covered their ears with tissues and some took refuge in the back of the plane to escape the noise.», contextualise-t-elle.

Faced with comments accusing her of mistreatment, the passenger wanted to explain herself by saying that it was a way of educating the young traveler.I just wanted to calm the little one down and let everyone rest.“, defends Gou Tingting, preferring “act rather than remain passive” But that was not enough to move Internet users: some called for a “trial”while others have wondered about “how public spaces could better accommodate young children“. Reporting behavior “inappropriate“, Chinese state media have also taken a stand against this way of educating. As for the airline, it apologized in a statement, also condemning the attitude of the two women.
