Stade Rennais swept Montpellier (3-0) at home this Sunday, for the fourth day of Ligue 1.

TOPS

Albert Grønbæk a glasses

Rennes’ summer recruit delivered a great performance this Sunday, during the 3-0 victory over Montpellier. The Danish striker finished the match with an assist on Ludovic Blas’ goal (24th) and a goal, the last for his team (61st), on a magnificent sequence. A player who will do a lot of good for Julien Stéphan’s team and who further strengthens an already rich squad.

Lorenz Assignon and Adrien Truffert were unstoppable…

The two Breton full-backs did a lot of harm to the Hérault defence. They did not stop provoking and attacking the MHSC surface. Always accurate and precise technically, the partners were able to get behind the Montpellier rearguard thanks to multiple mischievous combinations with their attackers.

…like the Rennes attacking trio

Arnaud Kalimuendo, Ludovic Blas and Albert Grønbæk offered a lot this Sunday. Rennes’ attacking movements, which lacked weight and depth during the first half hour, became more fluid afterwards to systematically bring danger to the Pailladin goal. The three Breton attackers found the back of the net and showed great understanding against MHSC, as evidenced by the first goal of the match, that of Blas (24th) – his second already this season -, which was the work of a great combination with Grønbæk. Kalimuendo sensed Assignon’s cross well to catapult a powerful header into Benjamin Lecomte’s goal ten minutes later (35th), before Grønbæk came to complete the Rennes recital (61st). A good omen for the rest of the season. The Red and Black will now have to know how to impose themselves away from home…

FLOPS

Akor Adams is on the loose

A (very) bad match for the Montpellier striker. The Nigerian was never on time, in the right rhythm this Sunday. The Hérault player missed all the good balls that were intended for him. And God knows there weren’t many… His captain Téji Savanier did what he could to feed him with interesting offerings but the Pailladin was off the mark this Sunday and (really) missed everything.

Montpellier sinks even deeper

The weeks go by and are all the same for MHSC. The Hérault club is still looking for its first victory this season and is worried. 13 goals conceded in 4 days… The Paillade defense is sinking in each game. It will absolutely be necessary for the return of the many injured players (Al-Tamari, Chotard, Jullien, Kouyaté, Sylla…) to be able to raise their heads. Otherwise, the season of Michel Der Zakarian’s team will resemble a long way of the cross. With this new setback, Montpellier falls even further into the depths of the ranking, to the penultimate place…
