Israel announced Tuesday, December 24 that a former hostage, who died of illness following her captivity in Gaza, was recognized as a victim of the October 7 attack. “Hanna Katzir, 76 years old, kidnapped from her home in Nir Oz during the October 7 massacre and released during the truce on November 24, 2023, died on December 24, 2024 after a complex medical situation since her release. She was recognized as a victim terrorism”Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said in a statement.
Kibbutz Nir Oz announced earlier Tuesday the death of Hanna Katzir who was kidnapped with her son during the unprecedented Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, which sparked the war in Gaza. Her husband Rami was killed in their home that day and the body of her son Elad, 47, who died in captivity was brought back to Israel in April and buried in Nir Oz.
Benjamin Netanyahu published a message of condolences to the Katzir family, recalling the authorities' commitment “to do everything to bring all our hostages home”. “We managed to bring Hanna home…but her body and soul bore the scars of horror until her last day”adds the press release.
Kibbutz Nir Oz, very close to the Gaza Strip, paid a heavy price in the Hamas attack, with around thirty dead and more than 70 people taken hostage, more than 25 of whom are still in Gaza, some of whom died in captivity.
