While appearing this Monday in New York court for the alleged assassination of the boss of the first private health insurance company in the United States, Luigi Mangione pleaded not guilty to “terrorist” murder

Luigi Mangione, suspected of having assassinated UnitedHealthCare CEO Brian Thompson, pleaded not guilty this Monday to charges of murder as a “terrorist” act before a New York court.

Accused of having shot dead the boss of the country's first private health insurance company on December 4 in New York, the 26-year-old American, escorted by several police officers and restrained by a metal chain around his waist, simply refuted this charge.

Last week, he already appeared for the same facts, but as part of a separate procedure before the federal courts, which also initiated proceedings.

INCHARGED By a grand jury

In New York State justice, Luigi Mangione was indicted by a grand jury – a panel of citizens with investigative powers – on 11 counts.

As of December 4, the images captured by video surveillance of the killer coldly holding his gun and shooting the 50-year-old boss on a sidewalk in the Manhattan business district had gone around the world. The suspect managed to flee and leave New York.

Since his arrest, Luigi Mangione has been heroized on social networks. This engineer who graduated from a major university has become a symbol of the frustrations of part of the American population with the denial of coverage and heavy medical bills by private insurance.
