From this Sunday, December 22, the new prices for medical consultations come into force.

General practitioners, pediatricians, specialists… Medical consultations increase from Sunday December 22. It will now cost 30 euros for a visit to the general practitioner compared to 26.50 euros until now. On the specialist side, consultations go from 56.50 euros to 60 euros.

This increase will not be passed on to most patients, who will still be reimbursed by Health Insurance and their complementary health insurance. However, 4% of French people are not covered by mutual insurance and will see their out-of-pocket cost – 30% of the cost of the consultation – increase.

Prices that will increase further

Furthermore, the new negotiated rates do not concern online consultations which are maintained at 25 euros, according to the Service Public website.

The new medical agreement was signed last June between the National Health Insurance Fund and the unions representing private doctors. This adjustment in the price of consultations aims to upgrade the activity of doctors to make the profession more attractive. In return, doctors will have to reduce their prescriptions for medications, examinations and sick leave.

From 1is July 2024, consultations will increase by a few more euros for most specialties.
