5G, launched in France a few years ago, is experiencing significant price developments. Initially positioned as a premium technology, it is becoming more and more accessible to consumers.
General drop in prices
The average price of 4G and 5G packages fell from 10,41% in 2023 compared to 2022, reaching €21.66/month. This trend continued in 2024, with even more competitive offers.
Attractive offers from end of 2024
At the end of 2024, we find 5G plans at very attractive prices:
- Prixtel : 100 GB from €6.99/month
- Red by SFR : 130 Go pour €7.99/month
- Free Mobile : 140 Go à €8.99/month
Operator strategies facing falling prices
Faced with this pricing pressure, operators are adopting various strategies:
- Temporary promotional offers
- Flexible plans adjustable according to consumption
- Inclusion of the 5G at no extra cost in certain 4G packages
Increase in data volumes
The fall in prices is accompanied by a significant increase in data envelopes. 5G packages of 200 GB or more are now common, meeting the growing needs of consumers.
Outlook for 2025
The democratization of 5G should continue in 2025, with a balance to be found between price attractiveness and profitability for operators.
