Saturday evening, a motorcyclist and his passenger died in an accident on a highway between Montpellier and Nîmes. A chase with a police vehicle would be involved. A judicial investigation is underway to shed light on this tragedy.
A motorcyclist and his passenger died during a double road accident, Saturday December 21 around 10:30 p.m., on the A709 motorway between Montpellier (Hérault) and Nîmes (Gard), reports Free Midday. The exact causes of the loss of control of the two-wheeler remain to be determined but a collision with a national gendarmerie vehicle could have occurred.
The accident, which occurred near the Vendargues exit, in the direction of Lunel, in fact involved a gendarmerie Alpine with two soldiers on board. According to France 3, the gendarmes of the Poussan motorway platoon (Hérault) checked a motorcycle at 139 km/h instead of 90 km/h. They then set off in pursuit of the two-wheeler and that's where the gendarmerie's Alpine allegedly hit the motorcycle.
A police officer interviewed this afternoon
According to preliminary information, the chase between the gendarmerie vehicle and the motorcycle began at the Saint-Jean-de-Védas tollbooth (Hérault). A judicial investigation is underway to clarify the facts. The driver of the gendarmerie vehicle must be interviewed this Sunday, December 22 in the afternoon, according to the local news site Le Métropolitain.
This tragedy occurred a few hundred meters after a first pileup on the A709 which involved several vehicles and injured five people. Here again, the circumstances remain unclear.
